GPT-6 Astra Law

OpenAI · proprietary · gpt-6-astra-law

GPT-6 Astra Law (Astra for Law) is OpenAI's legal configuration of GPT-6 Astra. It combines GPT-6 Astra with a dedicated Legal Search Index (U.S. case law, statutes, regulations, court rules, and administrative decisions across more than 230 million URLs, with case law from Free Law Project's CourtListener) and custom instructions for legal analysis and writing. OpenAI describes it as a configuration rather than a new base model. Access is initially through the Trusted Access program for eligible U.S. law firms in ChatGPT and Codex, with API customers such as Harvey and Legora; the API model id is gpt-6-astra-law. It accepts text and image input with text output. Standard pricing is $10 input, $1 cached input, and $50 output per million tokens (promotional pricing available at least through December 31, 2026). OpenAI reports that on 200 U.S. legal research questions from the private validation set of Vals AI's Legal Research Bench, at the highest reasoning effort, Astra for Law passed the overall correctness check on 54.0% of questions versus 38.7% for GPT-6 Astra with web search alone (self-reported).
